Paris, 2020. Rock is Dead!

A sociedade francesa tornou-se ultra-consumista, sob um governo ultra-conservador em moldes bushianos. Qualquer música que soe vagamente subversiva é proibida e o resultado ficou à vista, aquilo que nós chamamos de musica pimba por todo o lado. Posto isto um grupo de jovens rebeldes decide trazer de volta o Rock! --

Não podia deixar de falar sobre este manga aqui, da minha amiga Raphaëlle Marx AKA Raf. Foi ela que me impulsionou para o facto de eu estar a fazer BD neste momento, desde que há cerca de 8 anos atrás, numa altura um pouco depressiva, descobri o seu trabalho através de um link numa revista francesa. E a partir daí comecei a desenhar sem parar...

Debaser conta a história de um grupo de jovens que tentam trazer de volta o Rock. Muito interessante, Raf ao longo da história vai deixando uma panóplia de mensagens incriptadas detalhes quase escondidos e metáforas visuais sempre alusivas ao rock, com sátiras politicas à mistura - cada capítulo é um título de musicas da velha guarda do Rock - o Próprio título Debaser é o nome de uma musica dos Pixies, publicado pelas edições Ankama conta com 2 volumes e um terceiro a caminho a lançar no próximo festival de Angoulême.



Há muito tempo que mantenho o contacto (sempre que possível com Raf) gosto bastante do seu estilo gráfico muito energético, cheio de vida e movimento. Foi isto que me captou desde o início.

In the mood for watercolors.

Bit By Bit

Today I'll write a post in English. Cleaning the dust here once again. I'm drawing my ass out. A lot of work, a lot of invitations for projects so busy all the time. And when I have spare time I rest, or I sleep. Which was the today's case slept until 2PM and now I'm sober as.. erm my cat!?

So I solve to take some pictures, to a random illustration, it's one of those things that you do without a particular theme. I always take pictures of me drawing, of the materials etc. I've always found this inspiring.

And I've also managed to capture thing with the camera that when I look into the drawing I don't actually see. Like texture and fine details.

So I began this illustration in a ordinary paper, it was based on a wallpaper I found somewhere in the www and it's influenced by Soul Eater a cool anime and manga that I'm actually following up in my free time. The character Maka instead of holding her weapon with is the character Soul is holding a book.





But why a book? Well this has something to do with a story I'm writing at the moment ^^ not much to say about this it's still in my head tho

This is taking too long because I only do a couple of line once in a while.

Yet I like the result so far, hope I don't screw this up when painting.


I started using nibs, but changed to micron pen 005 oh yeah that thin, never thought I'd change to that. And that why the lines are coming up really cool.
